Online Search Soars in Popularity
Online search is surging in popularity, with almost 5.1 billion searches conducted in the US in December 2005.
According to Nielsen//NetRatings, the total number of online searches in the US has swelled 55 percent year-on-year, from 3.3 billion searches in December 2004. The figures were measured across 60 search engines.
Google is still dominating the search market, increasing its market share by almost 6 percent compared with the previous year, to hold 49 percent of all searches carried out in December 2005. Yahoo and MSN Search, on the other hand, saw their search share points fall slightly; Yahoo declined 0.3 percent to 21.4 percent, while MSN fell 3.1 percent to 10.9 percent.
